The recent demise of Air America Media reignited the debate over why liberal talk radio has struggled to find a viable audience. You’ve heard all the theories: bad business plan; putting politics ahead of entertainment; the mainstream media provides enough liberal news and comment, et cetera. Now former liberal talk host Steve Young puts forth a [...]

Excellent insight in this NYT opinion piece on what talk radio hosts and rappers have in common. Hint: A lot, including a hunger for financial success and its rewards. Jay-Z could have been talking about Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck when he wrote, “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man.”

Media Matters for America, the liberal media “watchdog” group, this week debuted a daily two-minute synopsis of what it considers the most “hateful rhetoric, offensive commentary and conservative paranoia” heard on talk radio. The first three installments include snippets from Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck, Dennis Miller and Quinn and Rose. There are also cameos by local talkers, including [...]

Brandchannel.com has posted a positive review of RushLimbaugh.com. Reviewer Adam Sauer concludes that El Rushbo’s site may not win any design awards, but “the in-your-face-ness of the design certainly supports brand consistency in terms of identity and messaging, and it provides the perfect place for Rush fans to get lost in the rabbit holes of information, archives, jokes and headlines.”

The Saturday session of this year’s Talkers New Media Seminar delivered both substantive information and celebrity heat. Some notes:
– Consultant Holland Cooke did an excellent job of reminding talk radio pros that their next gig may not be at a radio station. Cooke urged attendees to think of themselves as content creators — writers, public speakers, [...]

Huffington Post media blogger Bill Mann knows why conservatives dominate political talk radio: It’s because Clear Channel owns Premiere Radio Networks, syndicator of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and (in partnership with Citadel) Sean Hannity.
Yes, this is the same Bill Mann who recently argued on Huffington that Rush Limbaugh has so many affiliates because stations get [...]

The folks at SurvivalSeedBank.com want you to know that when society collapses, tomatoes and cucumbers will be the new cabbage. And that collapsewill be here before you know it. According to the website: “You don’t have to be an Old Testament prophet to see what’s going on all around us. A belligerent lower class demanding [...]

With apologies to Keith Olbermann, that’s the only way to describe The Huffington Post’s embarrassing Rush Limbaugh hatchet piece . Huffington media blogger Bill Mann claims to reveal the “dirty little secret” that Limbaugh has 600+ affiliates because his show is “free.” There are so many errors in this story that correcting them is like trying to eat [...]

Newsmax.com is out with a predictable, flawed and troubling list of “Little Limbaughs” – 25 local talk radio hosts who make an impact in their markets. The list was compiled for Newsmax by former WABC/New York programmer John Mainelli. First, kudos to Newsmax for recognizing the importance of local talkers. Of course, as with any “best of” [...]
