New Yorker on Savage: “A Heratic Among Heratics”

savageThe August 3 issue of  The New Yorker includes an in-depth profile of TRN talker Michael Savage.  It’s a thoughtful piece that paints Savage in a largely positive light.

Author Kelefa Sanneh calls Savage’s show ”one of the most addictive and least predictable shows on radio” and describes Savage as ”a marvellous storyteller, a quirky thinker, and an incorrigible free-associater” who “sometimes sounds less like a political commentator than the star of an unusually vivid one-man play.”

The lesson to be learned from this piece (the “take-away,” in current management lingo) is that Michael Savage is a success because he is unique and authentic.  He offers a compelling world view that originates in his diverse life experience.  There is nothing else like him on radio — or any other medium, for that matter.

Oh — a Fun Fact from the story:  Savage’s son, Russell, is the creator and owner of the Rockstar Energy Drink.  Russell got into that business as a result of his dad’s background in nutrition and herbalism.
